We've been listening to riffs on this refrain for as many years as we've been offering the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil. And for almost a decade, we've been dreaming of the same experience. I'm a big believer in working to make our dreams come true and this new Blue Sapphire Illuminating Body Oil is many years in the making. First dreaming, imagining exactly how I want it to feel on bare skin. The intoxicating, but not overpowering aroma that both excites my senses and grounds me in the same moment. Bringing me back to NOW.
So many experiments, playing with the balance of oils to create an effective product that moisturizes, brightens, reverses sun damage, feels sumptuous and calming, looks absolutely gorgeous and smells even better. It had to be EVERYTHING and I think we've at least come very close to perfect.
I began, as always, with the core ingredients. What does our vast world of plants offer us to heal years of damage from the sun, stress and environmental toxins? We have so many plant friends to choose from! When I consider the skin conditions I'm treating, I find that the most effective plant allies live in regions that create those very skin conditions.
For example, the plant-based oils that are most nourishing to parched and overexposed skin thrive in the driest areas of the world - jojoba, argan, shea, cocoa, Moroccan fig, blue tansy and frankincense. Many of these plants grown in harsh climates like Morocco and the deserts of Africa. I love that Nature provides for us so generously!

FULL MOON ENERGY & BLUE SAPPHIRES
The moon, especially when full, is said to bring us closer to our center, to help us turn inward, grounding our spirits. Herbalists and healers in many cultures have a tradition of setting their concoctions under the full moon to receive its healing energy and to transfer that energy to us. Precious stones, placed into a bowl of water, oil or tincture are believed to do the same. We chose blue sapphires, gathered from streams on a small family property in Montana, because they're believed to contain soothing properties. We place them in every batch of Blue Sapphire Illuminating Body Oil and Blue Sapphire Facial Oil, then lovingly set the glass jar under a full moon, hoping they will enhance the soothing, cooling, healing properties of the formula.
Does all this really work? We like to think so. It isn't something that can easily be proven with Western science, but I certainly think it can't hurt and at the very least, it's awfully romantic. I love the ritual of setting the big, precious jar o foil under the moon, saying a mantra for healing and thinking of all the beautiful friends we can bless with our offering of botanical goodness.
HOW DOES THE NEW BODY OIL DIFFER FROM THE ORIGINAL BLUE SAPPHIRE FACIAL OIL?
I knew this would be the first and most obvious question because the ingredients in both products are quite similar.
The most important difference is that the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil is a super-concentrate and designed to be use a precious few drops at a time, blended into another product like a facial serum, mask or moisturizer, to boost its effectiveness. It contains a massive 10% essential oils - farm too much to regularly use straight on our skin. The general rule of thumb, when formulating with essential oils, is to add no more than 2% total to a formula. All of our other facial products contain about 1% or less essential oil content. This is why we consider the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil to be a "concentrate".
Our new Blue Sapphire Illuminating Body Oil is meant to be used on its own. The essential oil content is closer to 1.5%. Lavished on, really. Don’t be shy- this should go on absolutely everywhere. From toes to hair, if you have dry skin, even on your beautiful face.
Even though we wrote the word "Body" on the label, I've been treating my face to a massage with it now and then when I'm feeling dry and overexposed to sun and wind- and my skin seems very happy about it. I pour a little puddle in my palm, add three drops of the Blue Sapphire Facial Oil to boost it up, blend it with my fingertips and then massage it over my face, throat and chest.
SOME KEY INGREDIENTS:
Blue Tansy Oil, also known as Moroccan Chamomile, is a powerful skin healing agent known for calming inflammation and reducing redness. Ours is wild-crafted and steam-distilled from the flowers of the herb. Emotionally, tansy supports feelings of self-control, focus and balance.
Moroccan Fig Seed Oil, used by Berber women for generations to combat dry desert conditions, has extraordinary healing and anti-aging properties. It contains almost 150% more of the antioxidant tocopherol (vitamin E) than Argan oil and helps slow cell aging, stimulates cell renewal, and protects against free radicals. Moroccan fig oil firms and smooths the skin, decreases dark eye circles and bags, reduces redness and diminishes scars. Ours is wild-harvested and pressed by a small family-owned-and-run company.
Frankincense Essential Oil is highly prized for its irresistible aroma and profound healing powers.
